Last year we learned that Disney will be launching a Star Wars live action TV series. However now it looks like it won’t be limited to just the one series. According to Disney’s CEO Bob Iger, they are actually looking to develop “a few” Star Wars TV series. This will be great news for fans, but is this too much Star Wars? I guess we will find out.
This news was revealed during an earnings call with investors in which Iger was quoted as saying, “We are developing not just one, but a few Star Wars series specifically for the Disney direct-to-consumer app. We’ve mentioned that and we are close to being able to reveal at least one of the entities that is developing that for us. Because the deal isn’t completely closed, we can’t be specific about that. I think you’ll find the level of talent … on the television front will be rather significant as well.”
These series will be exclusive to Disney’s upcoming streaming service which is expected to be launched in 2019. Iger also earlier confirmed that they had brought on board the creators behind HBO’s Game of Thrones series to write a new series of Star Wars films. That’s a lot of Star Wars.
