Dyson is a company best known for its premium appliances, like vacuums. It announced last year that it’s going to take a leap and make an electric car next. The company has now revealed that it will be setting up the manufacturing plant for its electric car in Singapore. Its board members have approved the construction of the first car manufacturing factory in Singapore, so it is all ready to go.
Dyson says that Singapore was chosen as the location for the plant due to its proximity to high-growth markets in Asia. The plant should be completed in 2020 and the car itself will be launched the following year. It will be interesting to see what the final product is like.
The company had shortlisted a handful of locations and had entered into discussions with their governments before finally settling on Singapore. It’s not new to manufacturing in that country. It employs 1,00 people there who manufacture electric motors for a variety of other products like their vacuum cleaners.
Dyson’s other manufacturing facilities are in the Philippines and Malaysia. The company is based in the United Kingdom but does all of its manufacturing overseas. The electric car is being developed at its research facility in Wiltshire then manufactured at its Singapore plant once the facility is completed. Very cool.
