Jaguar has announced that it has been testing a Range Rover Sport that has tech that allows the door to open for the driver as they approach. The tech uses the existing keyless entry system along with motion sensors. The doors could be of assistance to disabled drivers who often have a hard time with certain aspects of their vehicles.
In addition to helping the disabled, the tech could also make it easier for people carrying large packages to get in and out of the vehicle. The door features radar sensors to prevent it from hitting obstacles. It can be programmed to shut and lock itself when the driver walks away.
Once inside the vehicle, an overhead button keeps the driver from having to reach out and grab the door to close it. Both the driver and passenger doors can be equipped with the tech. It’s unclear when the door might see production.
